A Sharp Knife
New Couvo single
A Sharp Knife is streaming everywhere today. It’s the third single from the upcoming album, and it’s one I’m very excited for you all to hear.
“What’s the point of waking up in the morning if you don’t try to match the enormousness of the known forces in the world with something powerful in your own life?”
This is a question the avuncular baseball memorabilia collector Marvin Lundy from Delillo’s Underworld asks himself.
His way of matching this “enormousness” is, well, baseball memorabilia. That’s how he delineates his own life in relief to the geopolitical drift and conflict he reads in the news.
But we all have our own personal methods for this. No matter who you are, you still have to get up every day and find some reason for existing, however grand, however small.
A Sharp Knife is an investigation into these reasons. It’s a look at how we make sense of our personal tumult against the larger world—that increasingly entropic state just beyond our human capability of comprehension. Despite this, it’s the only world we’ll ever exist in.
And so we live in that tension, every second of our lives. How simple it would be if we could cut through these days like a sharp knife through a sheet of clean, crisp paper.
